About me
Graduated from Tokyo University of Foreign Studies with B.A. in Russian Language in 1991.
Worked for Nittetsu Hitachi Systems Engineering,Inc. for two years as a C-language programmer.
I have been engaged in translating English to Japanese and Japanese to English since then.
Worked from 1996 through 2001 for Berlitz GlobalNET at its headquarters in Dublin, Ireland.
I was specialized in processing and handling of translation queries. During every project, I received translation queries (the kind of questions that arise due to the lack of context, necessary information, background knowledge of the subject matter, etc., that might be crucial to avoid mistranslation).
I answered some of them, and transferred the others to the customer who was, after all, the expert of its own product and was capable of answer such questions. I came back to Japan in 2001 and then worked for several Japanese translation agencies. In these companies, I tried to introduce query-processing, which the translation industry in Japan was not really familiar with. In 2012, I left the last translation agency that I worked for. I decided to leave when the company started to meddle with machine translation.

Query-processing was particularly important when it comes to localization – where translators more often than not have no idea how and in what context the labels that they were translating would ultimately appear in the finalized localized software.
I was born and raised in a small town along the north-eastern coast of Hokkaido, facing the Sea of Okhotsk. I lived there up until I was 15. Then I left the hometown and moved to Hakodate to go to a boarding high school.
